Instagram: The Facebook-owned mobile photo-sharing service Instagram will be holding its first ever photograph exhibition in India Today, on January 7 (Thursday). In the exhibition, the photos generated from the social media app will be displayed.
The photo exhibition which marks the theme ‘Celebrating Diversity of Bengal’ will be held at the ICCR gallery in Kolkata where the photo and video sharing app will display community generated Instagram posts.

“The event has been organized to curate community-generated Instagram posts around the theme — Celebrating Diversity of Bengal. The exhibition will feature a combination of images covering festivals of West Bengal and images from the local Instagram community capturing the diversity of the state in landscape, people, food, wildlife, architecture, and more,” said the formal invitation.
The community-centric photo exhibition will be displaying the pictures covering the different festivals of West Bengal along with the pictures from the local Instagram community capturing the diversity of the state with respect to landscape, people, food, wildlife, architecture and more.
A statement from the company said, “People today are finding their visual voice through the images we capture and share with others, each image telling a story about what we’re experiencing. Images are universal. They transcend language and cultural barriers.”
Instagram announced in November its active user base in India has doubled in last one year with a large number of youngsters switching to Instagram to express them. Instagram which has more than 400 million users globally has over 75 percent of its user base outside the US and more than half live in Asia and Europe. The countries that added the most Instagrammers include Japan, Brazil and Indonesia.
Instagram is an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that allow its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.
