Hyderabad: Seven patients have lost their vision because of RL saline solution during surgery for that reason Telangana Drug Controller Authority has seized 28,000 bottles of an eye medicine(Ringer’s Lactate-RL saline solution)from the government-run Niloufer hospital. Seven patients have lost their vision during cataract surgery because they were administrated by RL saline solution which is infected by bacteria.These all happened in Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital (SDEH), which had supplied the medicine to Niloufer hospital as well.
Telangana Drug Controller Authority seized 28,000 bottles of eye medicine
Niloufer hospital gave alter to SDEH that RL bottles have some Foreign particulars but SDEH people didn’t listen and go ahead surgery’s with same RL bottles. Last Thursday, Niloufer hospital store manager, D Sitaramulu spotted one RL bottle with several foreign particles floating inside and immediately alerted our central drug store located at SDEH. In all, they supplied us 38,000 bottles, out of which 28,000 bottles were unused.
RL saline solution supplied from Nagpur-based Haseeb Pharmaceuticals various hospitals across the state is also under the scanner of the author. Meanwhile, state Government has constituted three members team from ophthalmology department to visit SDEH for investigation of RL bottles and take the complete information from the affected patients. The patients had developed severe eye infection reportedly caused by the bacteria Klebsiella. Laboratory examinations later revealed that the RL bottles had a superbug in them that led to the infection.
A case has also been registered against doctors at SDEH under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 338. Due to these people afraid to take medicines even from hospitals in future so, state Government has taken immediate action on Sarojini Devi eye hospital.Our Government has reacted in time but cannot save the eyes of seven members. Seven people have lost one eye during the time of cataract surgery. 28000 RL bottle was seized due to foreign particles because of that bottles got an infection in it and which is not usual for anyone.
