Digital India: India may have the world’s second largest Internet Users list but it also remains out of reach for nearly 950 million Indians. In a recent joint study by ASSOCHAM Deloitte, it has revealed that Internet Connection is away to more than 950 million Indians across the country. In a recent move, Indian Government is encouraging people to switch to digital means in order to provide awareness and education on Cyber Security, risks and safeguarding of information on the Internets. It is already aware that India is being among the cheapest data and mobile plans across the world. But the average retail price of smartphones steadily declining, connectivity is still out of the reach of nearly 950 million Indians. According to the report Assocham-Deloitte, the joint study reveals that India currently has about 350 million internet users, second only to China.

According to the reports, the study says Internet Connection penetration is increasing in India, the access to affordable broadband, smart devices and monthly data packages is required to spread digital literacy to make their ends meet. Digital literacy needs to be increased by providing institutional training in schools, colleges and universities or accelerating partnerships with global technology leaders and using the workforce trained under Skill India to impart training.
To encourage the Internet Connection across the country the government should increase awareness regarding the value add of technology to increase technology adoption, the study added that the benefits of technology which increase in the standard of living of the weaker sections of society and enhancing financial inclusion should be communicated to citizens. Start-ups should be involved to create and customise apps to local needs to increase adoption of digital technology.
Making reality of the Digital India Programme it is expected that the Internet Connection across several rural areas would come true. Apart from these Several initiatives undertaken by the government and other organisations are expected to improve the digital literacy rate in the upcoming years which will, in turn, result in an increase in adoption of technology and digital services.
